Seedzbox Plant Shade Netting

A 1m x 5m roll of woven HDPE netting that screens off a fence line, chicken run or compost corner while still letting air and light through.

UV-stabilised so it holds its colour and strength through a full season of direct sun instead of turning brittle and tearing.

Lightweight and easy to cut to size with scissors, then fix to a fence, frame or posts with cable ties or staples.

Works equally well as light shading for tender plants, a windbreak for a raised bed, or simple visual privacy from neighbouring gardens.

Green colourway blends into most garden settings rather than standing out like white or black mesh.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this netting used for?

It is a general-purpose HDPE screening net, most often used to screen a fence line, a chicken run or a compost area, or as light shading over a cold frame or raised bed.

Will it block the wind as well as give privacy?

It will take the edge off wind and give a useful windbreak effect, though it is woven rather than solid, so it is not a full wind barrier the way a solid tarpaulin would be.

Can I cut it to fit my fence panel?

Yes. HDPE mesh cuts cleanly with scissors or a sharp knife. Cut edges can fray with time, so finishing the cut edge with cable ties or a fold-over hem helps it last longer.

How do I attach it to a fence or frame?

Cable ties, garden wire or a staple gun into a wooden fence all work well. Space fixings every 30-40 cm along the edge so the netting does not sag or flap in wind.

Is it see-through?

It reduces visibility significantly from a normal viewing distance but is not a total blackout screen, since the weave lets light and air pass through by design.

Will it fade in the sun?

It is UV stabilised, which slows fading and embrittlement significantly compared with untreated plastic mesh, though all outdoor plastics will fade gradually over years of full sun exposure.

Can I leave it up over winter?

You can, but taking it down and storing it dry over winter, out of direct UV, will extend its working life by several seasons.

Does it come with fixings?

No fixings are included. Cable ties, garden wire, staples or netting clips (sold separately) all work well with the mesh.

Is the green colour consistent or does it vary?

The roll is a consistent mid-green shade, chosen to blend into typical garden and fence backdrops rather than a bright or dark tone.

Can it be joined to cover a longer run?

Yes, overlap two rolls by 15-20 cm at the join and fix both layers together with cable ties for a continuous screen.

Screening Netting: A Quick Buying Guide

4 min read ShadeGuard Netting

Garden netting comes in a lot of different weights, weaves and colours, and it is easy to buy the wrong one for the job. Here is what actually matters when you are choosing screening netting for privacy and light shading around fences, runs and beds.

Start with the job, not the product

Before comparing rolls, be clear on what you actually need solved: shading from sun, exclusion of pests, privacy from neighbours, or wind reduction. Many nets do more than one of these to some degree, but they are usually optimised for one job in particular, and buying on that basis avoids disappointment later.

What this product is built for

This is green HDPE mesh, chosen for privacy and light shading around fences, runs and beds. It is not a substitute for a purpose-built shade cloth if heavy sun protection is your main concern, or a dedicated insect mesh if pest exclusion is the priority, but for its intended use it strikes a sensible balance of durability, cost and coverage.

Sizing it correctly

Measure the area you actually need to cover, including a reasonable overlap at the edges for fixing down, before ordering. It is almost always easier to trim a slightly larger net down to size than to try to stretch a too-small piece across a gap.

Fixing it so it lasts

Whatever you are covering, the fixing points are usually where garden netting fails first, from repeated strain, flapping in wind, or UV weakening at a stress point. Space fixings evenly, keep reasonable tension rather than pulling it bar-tight, and check ties periodically through the season.

Getting more than one season out of it

Taking netting down when it is not needed, letting it dry fully, and storing it out of direct sunlight will noticeably extend how many seasons you get from a single roll, regardless of which type you choose.
